Virgin Atlantic is fully introducing ChatGPT Work to empower team operations, accelerating market research, product planning, and decision-making processes. For airlines, the customer journey goes far beyond the ticket purchase stage, encompassing the entire chain of browsing, purchasing, check-in, in-flight experience, and feedback tracking. Each stage generates large volumes of data scattered across different systems and reporting tools. Virgin Atlantic uses ChatGPT to connect these data signals, helping teams better determine where to allocate resources and build a comprehensive view of the customer journey.

During the company's development of a new five-year strategy, the digital products team needed a comprehensive understanding of the competitive landscape. Traditionally, conducting detailed journey analyses of multiple competitors often took several weeks. With ChatGPT Work, the team built a structured framework, allowing AI to independently research competitor experiences, track customer journey paths, and compile findings into an evaluatable dataset. Employees could start tasks in the morning and return hours later to assess and optimize results, with an impressive increase in efficiency.
Unified Dashboard Breaks Down Data Silos
The Virgin Atlantic Customer Experience and Analytics team previously faced another major pain point: employees had to switch between multiple dashboard tools, authentication workspaces, licenses, and reporting suites to piece together the full journey view. Through ChatGPT Work and ChatGPT Sites, Virgin Atlantic is creating a securely certified unified dashboard that consolidates data sources into a single interface. Employees from all departments can access views relevant to their roles, significantly lowering the barrier to information access and speeding up decision-making.
The team also uses ChatGPT to customize product planning tools, managing roadmaps, prioritization, and quarterly plans, while presenting simplified high-level overviews for executives. Miles King, Virgin Atlantic’s Customer Experience Director, said having a customizable and controllable visual single interface is a game-changing development for the team. Product teams no longer have to force their work into rigid tool frameworks but instead focus more on delivering the roadmap itself.
AI Evolves from Tool to "Chief of Staff"
Virgin Atlantic’s use of ChatGPT Work is penetrating deeper into daily workflows. Nathan Bolt, the head of digital products, now uses it as his “chief of staff,” integrating important matters across calendars, Slack, and emails, assisting in decisions, and generating presentations. Bolt said he hasn’t extended his working hours, but rather accomplished more within the same workday.
As usage continues to expand, Virgin Atlantic will keep focusing on transforming insights into faster decisions and better customer experiences. King summarized, ChatGPT helps the team identify customer needs, prioritize tasks, accelerate actions, and ultimately deliver value. Virgin Atlantic’s practice also confirms an industry trend: AI is evolving from a point solution to a systemic capability embedded in enterprise operations. The aviation industry, traditionally a service-intensive sector, is becoming a benchmark scenario for AI implementation.
