Facebook announced on Tuesday the launch of a series of creative features powered by Meta AI. From dynamic avatars that "make hearts" to text backgrounds that resemble movie scenes, this social media giant is trying to arm its flagship app with AI technology to win back young users who have shifted to TikTok.

Despite having a massive base of 2.1 billion daily active users, "brand aging" has always been a major concern for Facebook. The core of this update lies in providing Gen Z users with a more visually striking social experience through personalized expression:

  • Bringing static photos to life: A new Dynamic Avatar feature allows single-frontal photos to "come alive." Users simply need to upload a photo, and the AI will make the person in the picture wave, make a heart gesture, or wear a party hat.

  • Restyle Visual Reconstruction: In Stories (Quick Posts) and Memories (Memories), Meta introduced an AI editing tool called "Restyle." Users can instantly reconstruct the lighting, colors, and even the background of a photo using text commands or preset themes (such as anime, illustrations, or ethereal styles).

  • The Dynamic Effect Revolution for Text Posts: To make dull text stand out in the feed, Facebook launched Dynamic Backgrounds. Clicking the new rainbow icon allows dynamic scenes like falling leaves or surging waves to appear behind the text.

In addition to visual AI upgrades, Facebook has also made a series of subtle adjustments to its social mechanisms, including anonymous usernames for groups similar to Reddit, private feeds visible only to friends, and even attempts to revive the classic "Poke" feature.
