Wang Puzhong, CEO of Meituan's core local business, recently publicly discussed the company's AI applications and shared for the first time the systematic journey of AI transformation within Meituan. He pointed out that although AI supply is extremely abundant now, only a minority of enterprises can measure tangible benefits, with the root cause lying in four major mismatches: misperceptions—either overestimating or underestimating AI; efficiency—using it only for daily tasks without touching the core; scenarios—remaining on the periphery instead of integrating into operations; and evaluation—being short-sighted and ignoring internal adaptability. These four mismatches have made it difficult for many AI investments to translate into real productivity growth.
Wang Puzhong revealed that Meituan's AI transformation has gone through four stages. The first stage was from February to March this year, when the company launched a company-wide "shrimp farming" campaign. The result was a surge in bills, with thousands of yuan burned every day, while AI-generated errors actually disrupted real operations. In the second stage, each business unit gradually established AI teams, transforming the enthusiasm of all employees into productive power. By the third stage in June and July, through an internal competition mechanism, Meituan realized the key point—AI transformation is not just a technical issue, but a systematic project involving business, organization, and technology. It cannot rely solely on R&D teams. Finally, in July, AI was initially implemented in internal product processes and began generating value.
CatPaw is being widely deployed, with 90,000 employees using intelligent agents
In July this year, Meituan's all-scenario AI Agent platform CatPaw officially launched and was widely deployed: covering 90,000 employees, building 30,000 Agents, and completing verification in multiple real business scenarios. CatPaw provides dual clients for mobile and PC, with real-time task synchronization and seamless collaboration—mobile devices can initiate tasks anytime, check progress, and remotely confirm key decisions, while the PC client focuses on local deep execution, offering complete capabilities such as file operations, browser control, and terminal commands.
The cloud mode supports 7×24 hours of uninterrupted operation, unaffected even if local devices are turned off or disconnected from the network. Long-term and scheduled tasks continue to run in the cloud. On top of general Agent capabilities, CatPaw encapsulates Meituan's in-depth industry knowledge across the entire chain of local life services, covering scenarios such as store review diagnosis, product copy generation, marketing material evaluation, event planning, and business data analysis, enabling AI to be truly embedded into every link of local life.
