According to CCTV News, the Hengshan County People's Court recently concluded a case where AI was used to forge images of rotten fruits to fraud e-commerce platforms for "refund only" without returning the goods. In October 2025 to January 2026, local resident Tan Mou frequently ordered high-value fruits such as durians and cherries. After receiving the goods, he used AI photo editing software to create fake images of spoiled and moldy fruits and applied for "refund only" under the pretext of quality issues. Within four months, he placed more than 100 orders, with a total value of over 16,000 yuan.

Tan Mou's actions went beyond personal gain. Multiple e-commerce platforms listed Hengshan County as a high-risk area, and residents of the county were temporarily unable to purchase durians and cherries on the platform. After the involved platform reported the case to the Hengshan County Public Security Bureau in January 2026, the police found through big data monitoring that multiple "refund only" orders had the same delivery address. After electronic data investigation and IP tracking, the suspect was identified, and 75 mobile phones used for the crime were seized from his residence, along with complete records of AI forgery and fund transfers. After obtaining the refund, Tan Mou did not return the goods but sold the undamaged fruits at a low price through Xianyu, WeChat Moments, and offline channels for profit.
