To support the ever-growing demands of its AI business, leading AI company OpenAI is planning an unprecedented fundraising round. According to insiders, OpenAI aims to raise up to $100 billion in funding, with major tech giants reaching out to discuss investment opportunities.

In this capital feast, NVIDIA, the "armory" behind computing power, is considering adding up to $30 billion in investment. As an existing investor, NVIDIA's chips have been the core power source for OpenAI's model training. Meanwhile, long-time ally Microsoft is also discussing a new investment of less than $10 billion, while newcomer Amazon has shown more aggressive interest, with potential investment possibly exceeding $10 billion and even breaking through the $20 billion threshold.
OpenAI's urgent need for large amounts of funds is mainly due to the extremely high costs of AI development. According to the company's estimates, computing-related costs from 2026 to 2030 will exceed $430 billion, with cash consumption nearing $70 billion during that period.
The massive investment aims to ensure the company maintains an absolute advantage in model operation, training, and computing costs. This move not only alleviates concerns about its "rapid cash consumption" but also further widens the financial gap with its competitor Anthropic, which had previously vowed to surpass OpenAI in revenue by 2029.
Aside from pure capital injections, the involvement of major players often comes with deep commercial agreements. For example, Amazon's final investment amount may be tied to cloud server leasing agreements, and OpenAI may expand its collaboration with Amazon Web Services and sell enterprise versions of ChatGPT and other product subscriptions. Previously, OpenAI had committed to paying Amazon $3.8 billion in server fees over the next seven years.
If this financing round goes smoothly, OpenAI's valuation is expected to reach an astonishing $730 billion. Although specific investment terms have not been finalized and the actual investment amounts may not reach the upper limits discussed, the collective endorsement of tech giants undoubtedly places OpenAI in a stronger capital position in the global AI competition.
