DoorDash, the food delivery giant, recently confirmed that it has permanently banned a delivery driver suspected of using AI generation technology to fabricate delivery records. Previously, Austin resident Byrne Hobart disclosed this bizarre experience on the social media platform X: after placing an order, it was immediately marked as "delivered," and the confirmation photo submitted by the delivery driver (left image) was a fake image generated by artificial intelligence showing the order at his home. Hobart pointed out that although the house number and environmental details in the photo were highly similar to his home (right image), they clearly showed signs of being AI-generated.

According to Hobart's speculation, the fraudster may have obtained real-time images of his front door through a jailbroken phone or a hacked account, then used these materials to generate false delivery evidence. Shockingly, multiple Austin users commented that they had encountered the same license plate number with drivers using similar methods for fraud.
DoorDash stated that the platform takes a "zero-tolerance" policy towards fraudulent activities, and has been monitoring and intercepting such behavior through a combination of technical means and manual review, and has provided full refunds to affected customers. This incident has also sparked widespread discussions in the industry about how generative AI lowers the threshold for fraud and undermines the trust foundation of the gig economy.
