AI abuse has infiltrated the daily life service sector. DoorDash, an online food delivery platform, recently confirmed that it has permanently banned a driver's account, as it is suspected of using AI-generated images to forge proof of delivery completion - this is the first publicly acknowledged AI-driven delivery fraud case by major local service platforms globally, triggering widespread public concerns about the boundaries of generative AI misuse.

On December 27, Austin resident Byrne Hobart posted on social media platform X, stating that a DoorDash driver immediately marked "delivered" after accepting an order and uploaded a photo showing the "order placed at the door." However, Hobart discovered that the image of the food box on the left did not match his own porch on the right: there were obvious inconsistencies in lighting, proportions, and texture - likely AI-generated.

"Unbelievable," Hobart wrote, "he didn't even come to my house, he just used AI to fake a 'successful delivery' photo."

What was more suspicious was that another Austin user later commented that they had encountered the same driver (with the same display name), experiencing exactly the same situation, further corroborating the authenticity of the incident.

 Speculation on the Method: Exploiting Platform Vulnerabilities + AI Image Generation

Hobart speculated that the driver may have accessed DoorDash's "historical delivery photos" feature through a jailbroken phone or stolen account, obtaining real images of users' porches, then used AI tools (such as Sora, Runway, etc.) to synthesize virtual food boxes into real backgrounds, forging complete delivery evidence.

Although such operations have low technical barriers, they are sufficient to bypass the initial automated reviews of the platform, exposing the shortcomings of local service platforms in AI content identification capabilities.

After the incident went viral, a DoorDash spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch: "After a quick investigation, we have permanently terminated this delivery person (Dasher) and ensured the user received a full refund. We have zero tolerance for fraud, and we are continuously upgrading our risk control system through a combination of AI detection technology and manual review."
