OpenAI CEO Sam Altman had previously stated in October that ChatGPT would soon offer "adult content" to verified adult users, which is part of its philosophy of treating adult users as adults. Fei Ji Simo, CEO of OpenAI's application department, revealed that the "Adult Mode" of ChatGPT is expected to launch in the first three months of 2026. However, she emphasized that the company needs to improve the accuracy of "age prediction" before launching this feature.

Simo said that OpenAI has already tested the adult mode in some countries but did not disclose the specific test countries. She also mentioned that OpenAI hopes to effectively filter out child users while ensuring it does not incorrectly identify adult users. When this feature is finally available, ChatGPT could become a powerful platform for adult interaction. Currently, AI adult content generation tools are quite common online, and non-consensual deepfake issues are relatively serious. OpenAI's decision may further complicate the situation.
