OpenAI officially launched its new flagship GPT-6 to global ChatGPT users on October 8th, gradually replacing the previous GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-5.6 Luna. The main highlight of this update is not that the model has become significantly stronger, but rather that ChatGPT now has a new interactive layer called Smart UI for the first time — AI answers are no longer confined to plain text, but can choose appropriate formats to present content, such as images, charts, buttons, forms, and even small operable interfaces that can appear directly in the chat window.

The scope of this upgrade is broad. Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users have already started receiving the update, while free and Go users will follow later. The models available to different plans vary slightly: paying users run GPT-6 Sol, while free and Go users use GPT-6 Luna. Both have been specifically optimized for daily conversation experiences, not just a single set of weights forced onto everyone.

The real change in experience comes from this Smart UI. In the past, ChatGPT answered questions like writing an article, spitting out a long paragraph at once; now it weighs the nature of the question first and decides which format to use to present the answer. When comparing several products, it places differences clearly side by side with images and text; when explaining complex knowledge, it can directly generate an interactive chart, allowing users to drag parameters and see results change in real time; in more practical scenarios, a single sentence can make it create a calculator, a bill splitting tool, or even a playable mini-game directly within the chat window.

This means that tasks that used to require opening dedicated software or websites can now be solved on the spot within ChatGPT by simply stating a natural language request. OpenAI also maintains a balance: Smart UI does not always pop up. For simple questions, it still provides answers in text form, switching only when it determines that graphics or interaction are indeed needed, to avoid unnecessary additions.

The old pain point of response speed has also been addressed. Previously, the reasoning model had a frustrating habit — it would finish the entire thought process before spitting out the first word, making users wait for a long time. GPT-6 now thinks and speaks at the same time: while the reasoning proceeds in the background, the answer begins to flow out, and as the thinking deepens, it continuously adds and revises the previous content, significantly reducing the waiting time. OpenAI provided specific data: for questions requiring online search, the average waiting time for GPT-6 Instant to produce the first answer was reduced by 44% compared to GPT-5.6 Instant.

In addition to the visible interaction and speed, the model's foundation has also been improved in several areas. The quality of online search, the accuracy of information retrieval, and security have all been improved. It can now more reliably determine when to search and how to use the results, thus increasing the credibility of the answers. When ChatGPT transforms from a simple whiteboard that only writes text into an intelligent workspace that can decide how to present content and speak while thinking, the interface between AI and humans is pushed forward once again.
