Modern Motor made its debut at the Tokyo International Robot Show with its new AI-driven mobile robot, MobED. The mass-produced version of MobED will be available in the first half of 2026, coming in two models: the basic version and the professional version. In 2022, Modern Motor had already showcased the concept version of MobED at CES, and this production version will now offer users more possibilities.
MobED is a four-wheeled mobile platform that can adapt to various tasks according to needs, including delivery, carrying gear for hiking, video recording, and even acting as a golf caddy. Its unique modular design allows users to customize it according to their needs, such as using universal mounting rails and APIs.
The company's engineers stated that MobED can move flexibly in various environments, a feature that will change the mobile robotics industry. Its "eccentric control mechanism" enables precise posture control and adapts to different terrains, meaning there is no longer a need for robots specifically designed for certain environments.
MobED also features automotive-level engineering design, combined with so-called "intuitive autonomy," allowing users without technical backgrounds to use it easily. Intuitive autonomy is achieved through AI-driven sensors, which combine LiDAR and cameras to help the robot avoid obstacles. Meanwhile, predictive navigation algorithms allow the robot to move precisely in crowded and narrow spaces. In addition, MobED is equipped with a large touchscreen to facilitate tasks such as positioning by human operators.
The basic version of MobED is more suitable for research purposes, allowing users to build custom applications according to their needs, while the professional version integrates all AI technologies to achieve reliable autonomous functions, making it suitable for immediate use by industrial or individual consumers. Specific pricing has not yet been announced, but Modern Motor plans to sell 10,000 units of MobED within the first three years.
