Amazon has recently launched an AI translation tool called "Kindle Translate" on its Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) platform, aiming to help self-published authors more easily translate their e-books into multiple languages. The tool is currently in the testing phase and is only available to a select group of KDP authors. Initial features support translation between English and Spanish, as well as German to English, and authors can use the tool for free.

Self-published authors can freely choose the language they want to translate their books into and set separate pricing for each translation. After the translation is completed, authors can preview the translated text to ensure satisfaction before publishing. Amazon stated that all works translated using this tool will undergo automatic evaluation before publication to ensure translation accuracy. Additionally, all e-books translated by the AI will be marked with a "Kindle Translate" tag to help readers identify them.

Currently, Amazon pointed out that less than 5% of books on its platform are available in multiple languages, a percentage that the "Kindle Translate" tool aims to improve. E-books translated using this tool are also eligible to join the KDP Select and Kindle Unlimited programs. Notably, the launch of this translation tool coincides with Audible, Amazon's audiobook platform, which introduced a multilingual AI narration tool a few months ago, demonstrating Amazon's determination to promote multilingual content creation.
