With the arrival of Amazon's annual Prime Day shopping event, artificial intelligence is expected to play a bigger role in this online shopping feast. This year's Prime Day runs from July 8 to 11, and online spending by U.S. e-commerce retailers is expected to reach $23.8 billion, an increase of 28.4% compared to last year, including a $9.6 billion increase.
According to Adobe's analysis, this year's Prime Day sales will be equivalent to "two Black Fridays," and the proportion of mobile shopping will also exceed half, reaching 52.5%. More surprisingly, traffic from generative AI is expected to surge by 3200% year-over-year. Although this is still a relatively small traffic source, Adobe believes that as consumers gradually recognize the value of AI in shopping, this trend is expected to continue growing.
Adobe mentioned that during the 2024 holiday season, the usage of generative AI chatbots and browsers also saw a 1300% surge, showing that more consumers are willing to use AI for shopping. In a survey of 5,000 American consumers, 55% of respondents said they used generative AI for product research, 47% for product recommendations, and 43% for finding deals. Additionally, 35% of respondents used AI to find gift ideas and unique products, while 33% used AI to create shopping lists.
Notably, 92% of AI users said it enhanced their shopping experience, and 87% said they were more inclined to use AI when making larger or more complex purchases. Faced with this trend, AI service providers are also continuously innovating, integrating AI technology into the shopping experience. For example, Google's Gemini-enhanced product search and OpenAI's ChatGPT have added shopping features, further driving the development of this market.
During the upcoming Prime Day, consumers will focus on discounts, especially the promotions on clothing items will be the most eye-catching. In addition, the arrival of the school season will also drive sales growth, and the demand for affordable and high-quality products will add more momentum to the entire shopping season.
