Recently, in a gym in Beijing Yizhuang, a humanoid robot named "Tiangong" has become the new darling of the tech world due to its exceptional athletic abilities.

Developed by the Beijing Embodied Intelligence Robotics Innovation Center, this robot not only effortlessly runs at a speed of 6 kilometers per hour on a treadmill but also navigates stairs, traverses lawns, and climbs slopes outdoors in high temperatures. These series of actions represent a significant technological leap for a robot.

The upgraded version of the "Tiangong" robot is expected to debut at the 2024 World Robot Conference. It has increased degrees of freedom throughout its body and is equipped with advanced 3D cameras and six-axis force sensors, enabling it to perceive the environment in 360 degrees and adapt to various complex terrains. More impressively, it can engage in Chinese-English dialogue, follow commands to grasp objects, demonstrating unprecedented multimodal operation capabilities.

The design philosophy of this robot is to create an embodied intelligence, a system capable of sensing the environment, making decisions, and executing tasks. To achieve this, the research team adopted a predictive reinforcement imitation learning method based on state memory, allowing "Tiangong" to predict and respond to complex terrains in advance.

Additionally, the "Tiangong" development team plans to establish a meta-skill library, integrating different technical methods to address issues in various task scenarios. Their goal is to enable "Tiangong" to cover most tasks in human daily work and life, achieving more complex and long-term task execution.

The establishment of the Beijing Embodied Intelligence Robotics Innovation Center marks a solid step forward in the domestic robotics industry in addressing key common issues. By creating the "Tiangong" general-purpose robot mother platform, they provide a open software and hardware development environment for research institutions and related enterprises, promoting technological progress across the industry.
