Anthropic engineer Adi Othmani announced on X on November 4 that Claude Code 2.1.317 has adjusted the game development restrictions for Claude Opus 5.5. The new rules allow users to directly name existing games when describing gameplay and mechanics, and Claude will no longer flatly refuse because of it. This is actually a reversal that developers scolded the team into making—just last week, to prevent people from using Claude Code to replicate others' work, the team had inserted two hard-and-fast rules into Opus 5.5's system prompt, requiring it to avoid copying other people's games.
False positives anger people more than copying; one reference is enough to trigger a refusal
