On November 3, OpenAI, the AI giant, officially announced a major personnel appointment on Monday, hiring former U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll as its newly created Senior Advisor for National Security Modernization.

In this new core role, Driscoll’s main responsibility will be to provide strategic advice to OpenAI’s leadership and work closely with external partners to explore how advanced AI technologies can be used effectively to further strengthen national security and cybersecurity defenses.

OpenAI said that after taking office, Driscoll will engage broadly with stakeholders, including government officials, industry leaders, and academic institutions, to help advance practical initiatives. He will also assist OpenAI’s internal R&D and business teams, helping them better understand the real operational needs of national security-related agencies around the world.
