A new poll shows that concerns about the rapid development of artificial intelligence have crossed party lines, with the majority of American people believing that the government should prioritize keeping AI under human control and strengthening protection for workers. The survey found that as many as 64% of respondents believe the current pace of AI development is too fast, with only a small number considering the speed appropriate or too slow.

Concerns About Risks Lead to Calls for Regulation

The traditional warning that powerful AI models could escape human control is becoming a central issue in public policy. Not only have several leading tech executives called for slowing down to align with regulation, but nearly 80% of surveyed citizens also strongly advocate that the government must ensure the safety of the technology and protect local jobs.

Political Divisions Intensify Challenges

As the midterm elections approach, data centers that support AI operations have become a political focal point, but public evaluations of the current administration's handling of this issue are generally low. Although people across parties have reached a high level of consensus on controlling risks and protecting workers, there are still significant differences on priorities such as economic competition and environmental protection.
