The AI+ health industry is entering a growth phase. On September 10th, during the Health Industry Development Insights Forum at the Bund Conference, data from Afu's "Scientific Weight Loss of 100 Million Catties" campaign attracted attention: 2.75 million netizens logged in on Afu for 75 days, and through the integration of "health AI + health hardware," they have collectively lost over 5 million catties. The latest user count of Ant Afu has also reached 150 million.

Users have lost weight, and the health industry has also developed, driving popularity in body fat scales, healthy food, and other health-related consumption. Leading companies in the health sector, such as Huawei, Yu Yue, and Lek, generally hold an optimistic view of the development trend of AI + proactive health management, believing that AI + hardware will become the infrastructure of health management, with AI expected to be a key variable in the explosive growth of health consumption.

Ant Afu also announced its continued investment in the health sector, and on the same day, it launched the "Health Management Ecosystem Plan": it will continue to work with partners in smart hardware, healthy food, and sports nutrition to promote "Scientific Weight Loss of 100 Million Catties," helping more people establish habits of proactive health management through weight control.

"Scientific Weight Loss" has driven popularity in body fat scales and healthy diets, with national netizens having lost over 5 million catties in total.

The application of health AI has made continuous and proactive health management a reality. In response to the national "Weight Management Year," in mid-June, Ant Afu launched the "Scientific Weight Loss of 100 Million Catties" health initiative, offering a 1-yuan body fat scale, upgraded AI fitness and diet analysis capabilities, and launching a weight loss challenge. Currently, 2.75 million netizens across the country have participated, with a cumulative weight loss exceeding 5 million catties.

Zhu Sheng from Sichuan wanted to take a good wedding photo and used the Afu App to get a smart body fat scale, along with a customized exercise and diet plan. After logging in for 47 days, Zhu Sheng has already lost 25 catties. Zhu Sheng is not an isolated case; over 50,000 users in the "Scientific Weight Loss of 100 Million Catties" campaign have lost more than 10 catties, and over 80,000 users have moved their BMI indicators from overweight/obese to normal.

Han Wei, founder and CEO of Lek, believes that AI could become a key variable in health management. AI will not replace coaches but will help them provide personalized services, truly achieving "one person, one solution." He believes that during the process of scientific weight loss of 100 million catties, it will directly or indirectly drive the development of health consumption. "Users are healthier, and the industry is also developing."

According to the information, since the launch of the "Scientific Weight Loss of 100 Million Catties" campaign two months ago, Afu's co-branded body fat scale sales have exceeded 3 million units, with body fat scale factories experiencing a surge in orders. Top brands like Huawei and Xiaomi have also connected their body fat scales with Afu App and joined this campaign.

The trend of "scientific weight loss" has also spread to the food and catering industry. After Afu partnered with Bohe Health to upgrade "AI Food Photography," many catering companies actively followed up with healthy eating options. For example, some catering companies in Guangdong launched low-calorie breakfasts, while Xiaolongjia and Zhang Liang Hot Pot introduced Afu's AI food photography to control calorie intake in their stores in Hangzhou and Harbin, leading to increased foot traffic and orders. Regions where AI and offline catering are closely integrated show better weight loss results. Data shows that among Afu's nationwide weight loss rankings, netizens from Guangdong and Zhejiang rank first and second respectively.

Yan Hengli, general manager of the Food and Health Industry at Taobao Supermarket under Tao Tian Group, stated that healthy eating is not a short-term trend but a long-term growth market. Over the past three years, the annual growth rate of the health food category on Taobao Supermarket has remained double-digit. The self-owned brand Taobao Supermarket Zhenxuan focuses on product innovation in ten health sectors, including low-GI and clean ingredients, while enhancing AI selection and insight capabilities. Together with Academician Chen Junshi's research station, it has created a low-GI Bajiang Cake specifically for sugar control, which quickly became the top Chinese pastry on Taobao Supermarket. The health section co-built by Taobao Supermarket and Ant Afu will go live in October, helping more consumers choose suitable health diet plans.

Smart health device sales are rising, and "AI + hardware" is becoming the infrastructure of health management

"AI + smart wearable devices are gradually becoming the infrastructure for future proactive health management," said Gong Yuansong, vice president of Huawei's Smart Wearables and Sports Health Product Line. He noted that 80% of chronic diseases can be prevented in advance, and AI + smart wearable devices allow health to be calculated and managed individually, shifting from "disease-driven healthcare" to "smart health protection." According to the information, in Huawei's China region, the number of users who use wearable devices to monitor emotional states and detect irregular heartbeats via smartwatches has exceeded 43 million and 15 million, respectively. A large number of users are practicing proactive health, becoming the primary responsible party for their own health. Currently, Huawei wearable device data supports binding with Afu, and Gong Yuansong mentioned that in the future, they will explore refined operations with Afu in specific scenarios such as weight loss and sleep.

It is reported that Ant Afu has successfully established the "AI + hardware + service" health management model, supporting the connection of 18 major health hardware brands, including smart wearables such as watches and bracelets, as well as home medical devices such as glucose meters and blood pressure monitors.

The first home medical device brand to connect with Afu App was Yu Yue. This year, its CGM (continuous glucose monitoring) business saw more than double growth, making it the fastest-growing category. Additionally, Yu Yue has jointly launched a CGM with Afu.

Yu Yue Medical Deputy General Manager Yu Caihao believes that when continuous glucose data from CGMs is integrated into Afu's AI health records, the AI recommendations are no longer general health tips, but specific feedback like "the cup of bubble tea you had today caused your blood sugar to stay high for four hours," which can truly change behavior.

"Yu Yue has served 300 million families, but the penetration rate of home medical devices is still low, leaving significant room for industry growth," Yu Caihao said. He pointed out that the industry has previously faced issues such as "buying after illness" and "short-lived enthusiasm," focusing on measurement without management. AI interpretation and support precisely fill this gap. Users are no longer just buying a device, but obtaining understandable and sustainable health services.

Currently, the growth rates of many health sub-sectors in China are impressive. According to data from the State Taxation Administration, in the first quarter of 2025, the sales revenue of intelligent health monitoring equipment alone rose by 41.6% year-on-year. Throughout 2025, the sales revenue of health consultation services in China grew by 11.7% year-on-year.

Ma Defu, deputy director of the School of Public Health at Peking University, stated that the "Healthy China 2030" Plan aims to double the total scale of China's health service industry, from 8 trillion yuan in 2020 to 16 trillion yuan. The collaborative model of "AI + smart hardware + service" has expanded the imagination and potential for the development of the health industry.
