On September 6, Google officially began rolling out the new "minimized" quick action button with the Google Gemini interface on the Android system in a phased manner. This update allows users to instantly collapse the large Gemini interactive overlay into a small floating bubble with a Spark logo that takes up most of the screen.

This upgrade breaks the traditional full-screen, intrusive interaction limitations of mobile AI assistants, allowing users to seamlessly switch to email, social media, or browsers while Gemini handles complex prompts in the background, significantly improving multitasking efficiency within the Android ecosystem.

In terms of specific interaction design, the new minimized button is located above or beside the reply box. The collapsed floating shortcut can be fixed in one of six preset positions along the screen edge and supports dragging for repositioning and swiping to close. Devices running Android 17 can also combine clicking outside the area, system back gestures, or system-level bubble options to achieve a richer multi-window parallel experience. To address minor issues such as the bubble position resetting after each minimization identified during early testing, Google is continuously optimizing the experience through progressive rollouts.

As mobile AI applications shift from single-question answers to deep workflows, non-intrusive interaction and background persistence have become key factors for the practical implementation of generative AI assistants. By gradually transforming Gemini from a static pop-up window into a dynamic background tool, Google not only improves multitasking capabilities of generative AI on mobile devices but also provides an important reference for the industry in exploring lightweight, seamless generative AI human-computer interaction models.
