Bloomberg reported that AI laboratory Midjourney, known for its AI image and video generation tools, has acquired the social astrology app Co-Star. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Co-Star has approximately 4.3 million monthly active users and primarily helps users generate and share astrological birth charts. The app combines AI and human-written astrology forecasts, compatibility assessments, and other recommendations based on users' astrological information.
Midjourney is showing a trend of diversified expansion in its product lineup. This company is almost synonymous with text and image generation services on Discord servers—until now, it has not had an independent Midjourney app—but it has previously tried to establish a healthcare division and a spa business. The acquisition of Co-Star further expands its product line.
As part of the acquisition, the entire team of about 24 people from Co-Star has joined Midjourney. Considering the team's experience in developing consumer-level applications, Midjourney may finally be able to launch its own independent app.
