Google is developing a new voice customization feature for Gemini, allowing users to adjust the AI assistant's voice performance through multiple parameters. According to analysis of the Google app beta version code, Google plans to launch a voice control menu with four sliders: "speed," "energy," "formality," and "friendliness," enabling users to more precisely shape Gemini's communication style.

This feature was discovered by the 9to5Google team in the Google app version 17.41.12 test APK. The relevant code shows that users will no longer be limited to preset voice options in the future but can adjust Gemini's voice personality using sliders. The customization settings are expected to apply to both Gemini Live real-time conversation mode and regular chat scenarios.

The "speed" option provides three adjustment levels: slow, normal, and fast, used to control the AI's response pace; "energy," "formality," and "friendliness" mainly affect the way the voice is expressed, helping users adjust the assistant's style according to different scenarios. For example, users can lower formality and increase friendliness to make Gemini more suitable for casual conversations like travel planning, or they can increase formality for professional scenarios such as research analysis.

This update reflects Google's direction of improving the naturalness of AI interaction. Previously, the company has been developing voice support capabilities based on regional dialects, hoping to further enhance the localized performance of voice assistants.

As competition among mobile AI assistants intensifies, Apple has also added Siri-related customization options in iOS 27, allowing users to adjust speaking speed and expression effects. However, Google's focus this time is more on AI personalization and emotional expression, enhancing the conversation experience through dimensions such as "energy" and "friendliness."

Industry experts believe that the future development of voice assistants depends not only on their understanding ability but also on their ability to adapt emotionally during interactions. By providing more precise voice control, AI assistants are expected to reduce the sense of distance caused by mechanical communication, getting closer to natural human-computer communication models.
