On October 12, it was disclosed that Google is developing a new screen context-based shopping suggestion feature called "Shop this" for its AI assistant Gemini.
Code decompilation shows that the feature is embedded in the Gemini floating overlay (Floaty UI) of the Google Android app version 17.66.11.sa.arm64. When users browse products in any third-party application, they can directly invoke Gemini without manually switching apps or searching. This feature automatically identifies the product on the current screen and finds purchasing channels, while providing key comparisons of the product's core use, specifications, and size parameters, and actively recommends alternative products of different styles.

This strategic move continues Google's overall plan to upgrade the retail experience using large models, deeply integrating Gemini's previously scattered product recognition and shopping comparison capabilities into screen context awareness above the app layer, significantly simplifying the user's cross-app shopping decision path. Currently, this feature is still in the early development testing phase, and the specific implementation form and application compatibility range are yet to be further confirmed.
As AI assistants evolve from simple text问答 to multimodal and real-time perception interactions, Gemini's penetration into cross-app shopping scenarios is expected to redefine the mobile search and e-commerce traffic paradigm.
