Social Capital founder and former Facebook executive Chamath Palihapitiya announced on Monday that his AI coding startup 8090Labs has successfully closed a $135 million Series A round, with Palihapitiya taking on the role of full-time CEO. The funding round was led by Salesforce Ventures, with participation from prominent institutional investors and tech angel investors such as WndrCo, Craft Ventures, Launch, Nikesh Arora, CEO of Palo Alto Networks, and Adam D'Angelo, CEO of Quora.

Founded in January 2024, 8090Labs focuses on providing dedicated AI coding agents (Coding Agents) for enterprise programming teams. Its flagship product "Software Factory" aims to revolutionize the traditional code assistance model, enabling enterprise programmers to directly build production-grade software using AI, rather than just creating code prototypes. It also introduces enterprise-level compliance and control features such as audit trails.

This funding not only injects resources into the company but also marks Palihapitiya's first return to a full-time operational role since leaving Facebook. In the current trend of generative AI penetrating enterprise production environments, 8090Labs' strategic moves reflect the evolution of the AI coding industry from "generation assistance" to "full-fledged agents." With the involvement of major capital and experienced operators, the practical application of production-grade AI coding technology for core business processes is expected to accelerate further.
