Founded by the founder of Oculus and former core members of the VR team, the AI startup Sesame officially launched the public beta version of its conversational AI agent iOS application on May 28 local time. This move breaks the "question-and-answer" mechanical model established by traditional chatbots like ChatGPT, aiming to redefine the fluidity of human-computer interaction.

In traditional AI interactions, there has always been an irreconcilable contradiction between rapid response and deep thinking. To allow AI to have time to think without making the conversation feel abrupt, Sesame developed an efficient search and retrieval system. This technology enables AI to initiate multiple online searches in the background while conversing with users, seamlessly integrating the latest information into the ongoing response. This technology makes AI's expression more like that of humans—able to flexibly adjust meaning within sentences based on new thoughts.

The newly launched iOS app integrates four distinct AI agents: Maya, Miles, Simone, and Charlie. They not only have unique voices, personalities, and perspectives but also possess distinctive memory mechanisms. During the previous preview phase, Maya and Miles attracted over a million users within a few weeks due to their excellent interactive experience. This also helped Sesame secure a $250 million B-round funding led by Sequoia Capital.

Based on user feedback collected during the public testing phase, the new version of the app has added visual cards with image search results and a note-taking function. It also includes a typing input mode and an in-depth exploration mode. Additionally, the app introduced an incognito browsing mode that allows the AI to access previous conversation context but does not store the current chat content in permanent memory.

Notably, the release of the iOS app is just the first step in this startup's grand vision. According to the team, Sesame plans to launch accompanying smart glasses hardware in 2027. Moreover, these AI assistants will evolve from "thinking with you" to "acting for you," becoming true action-oriented agents capable of performing actions across platforms. This means that in the future, users won't need to carefully think of precise command phrases; they can simply engage in natural daily conversations, and the agents will understand and perform complex tasks on their behalf.

Currently, the iOS app is available in 39 countries and regions worldwide, allowing users to experience all its features for free, though registration may require joining a short waitlist. The official also revealed that a preview of the Android version is already in future plans.
