The battle between AI and cybersecurity is extending into the realm of geopolitics. The European Commission recently plans to hold emergency meetings and negotiations with the AI unicorn Anthropic, aiming to obtain detailed information about the company's mysterious security large model called "Mythos," and strongly requesting that the model be made available in the EU region.
Deadly Attraction and Export Security Restrictions
The EU's intense enthusiasm for Mythos stems from the fact that Anthropic previously revealed that the model has an extremely terrifying sensitivity in identifying, discovering, and exploiting cybersecurity vulnerabilities. Due to this dual-edged nature, which could pose significant potential cybersecurity risks, cross-border access is highly likely to require formal approval from the U.S. government before being released. Despite export restrictions, Anthropic still plans to widely release a series of new commercial models in the coming weeks, whose cybersecurity protection and detection capabilities are said to be on par with Mythos.
Big Players' Pace Widens Compliance Gap
Previously, OpenAI, backed by Microsoft, had already opened its cutting-edge GPT-5.5-Cyber cybersecurity model to the European Commission, helping the EU enhance its digital defense capabilities. In contrast, Anthropic has been highly cautious about opening access to Mythos. Insider sources revealed that although the EU has already initiated positive negotiations with Anthropic to obtain access rights, the overall progress and depth still lag significantly behind OpenAI.
