Facings the surging wave of AI-generated music, Apple recently released an open letter titled "What We’re Doing to Keep Music Fair" to record companies and industry partners. In this letter, Apple clearly expressed its inclusive attitude towards AI music, reiterating that it will not simply ban such content, but strict industry governance is required.

Proactive Measures with Low Proportion

According to data officially released by Apple, the current proportion of AI music in Apple Music's total playback volume is significantly less than 1%. Although this percentage is currently negligible, and many AI songs have almost zero plays, Apple believes it has already entered the scope of content that the platform must regulate.

Apple explained that they acknowledge AI technology can help artists explore new ways of musical expression. However, this innovation must be based on transparency and rules against abuse. The platform absolutely does not accept behaviors where AI is used to impersonate real creators and mislead listeners.

Innovative Tags and Fraud Cracking Down

To enable listeners to "clearly" listen to music, Apple Music has already launched AI content tags support since March this year, becoming the first streaming service globally to add this capability. Currently, some major distributors have started submitting related metadata, and in the future, clearly marked AI tags will become a mandatory requirement for all content providers.

In addition to relying on self-discipline from creators, Apple has also developed internal identification tools to focus on cracking down on fraud, spam content, and impersonation behavior. Once the system detects that most of the play counts of an AI song come from traffic manipulation or fabrication, Apple Music will take severe measures, including direct removal from the platform.
