Technology media NeoWin reported that Meta is advancing a new AI age detection system aimed at identifying and removing user accounts under the age of 13 on Facebook and Instagram platforms. The launch of this technology comes due to past age verification mechanisms having many loopholes, with users often easily bypassing restrictions by entering false birth dates.

The new AI system will use a combination of text analysis and visual scanning to more accurately determine the user's age. Through visual scanning, the AI will analyze photos and videos uploaded by users, estimating the age range based on physical characteristics such as height and skeletal structure. Meta specifically emphasized that this is not facial recognition technology, and the system will not identify the user's specific identity, but rather determine an approximate age range through physical clues.

In terms of text analysis, the system will focus on the content posted by users, identifying signals related to age, such as birthday posts or information about the grade mentioned. After combining these two methods, the AI can effectively identify users who lied about their age during registration, especially those under the age of 13.
