On April 28, the Cyberspace Administration of China imposed strict penalties on the "Jianying" and "Maoxiang" apps, as well as the "Jiemeng AI" website, for failing to effectively implement regulations regarding the labeling of artificial intelligence-generated content.
During a special inspection, the cyberspace administration found that these platforms did not effectively comply with relevant regulations, such as the "Regulations on Labeling of Artificial Intelligence-Generated Content," and failed to clearly label AI-generated images, videos, and synthetic content. This violated core requirements set forth in the Cybersecurity Law and the Temporary Provisions on the Management of Generative AI Services.
In response to these violations, the Cyberspace Administration of China guided local cyberspace administrations to take measures including warnings, orders to rectify, and cautions, and required strict handling of relevant personnel. A responsible official from the Cyberspace Administration emphasized that websites must strictly abide by legal boundaries, ensure traceability of AI-generated content, and safeguard public interests and order in the online space.
With the intensive release of domestic large models such as DeepSeek V4 and the rapid development of the computing power industry, AI content labeling has become a key measure for regulators to promote healthy and orderly industry development. This enforcement action sends a clear signal from the regulatory authorities to strengthen law-based internet governance, indicating that the generative AI industry is transitioning from an early phase of "technological sprinting" to a new stage of "compliance-driven development."
