On April 9, the latest humanoid robot R1 from Unitree made an appearance at Alibaba's West Lake Campus in Hangzhou, marking the official preheating phase of the strategic cooperation between this leading embodied intelligence company and the internet giant Alibaba.
On-site witnesses reported that the R1 robot demonstrated human-like behavior in public areas, operating a computer with the screen clearly displaying the word "Invitation." According to insiders and on-site staff, this appearance was part of the promotional preparations for the new project "ShuMaitong," which is planned to be officially announced at the brand conference in Shenzhen in mid-April.

Industry analysis suggests that the "ShuMaitong" project most likely refers to the integration of Unitree's business with Alibaba's cross-border e-commerce platform AliExpress. Since 2025, Unitree has accelerated its overseas expansion, having already joined the official AliExpress store and participated in related subsidy activities. The on-site display of the R1 robot and the naming logic of the new project indicate that the collaboration between the two companies will move from simple online presence to deeper strategic coordination.
At this critical stage of commercializing embodied intelligence, the combination of humanoid robots and cross-border e-commerce ecosystems shows strong industry foresight. Through AliExpress's mature global logistics and marketing system, domestic humanoid robots are expected to further reduce the barriers to going global and increase their penetration rate in both consumer and commercial markets worldwide. This collaboration not only demonstrates innovative attempts by domestic robot companies in their overseas expansion strategies but also reflects how e-commerce platforms are building more technologically advanced and differentiated cross-border trade service systems by introducing cutting-edge AI hardware ecosystems.
