On August 23, according to Nandu Wancaishe, in the men's 400-meter final of the large group athletics event at the second World Humanoid Robot Games, Huawei's self-developed humanoid robot "Lightning" ran a time of 39.45 seconds, breaking the human world record for the 400 meters.

Previously, South African sprinter Wayde van Niekerk set a world record of 43.03 seconds at the 2016 Rio Olympics, which he still holds. After the competition, Van Niekerk also gave a thumbs-up and wishes to "Lightning."

In the previous preliminary round, "Lightning" completed 100 meters in 9.32 seconds, with a peak speed of 14.5 meters per second, both exceeding the human 100-meter record of 9.58 seconds by Bolt and the fastest peak speed of humans. The related video was also liked and shared by Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla.

In April this year, "Lightning" won the semi-marathon event at the 2026 Yizhuang Humanoid Robot Marathon in Beijing with a time of 50 minutes and 26 seconds, surpassing the human world record for the half marathon of 57 minutes and 20 seconds.

Huawei stated that "Lightning's" high-speed mobility capability comes from the upgraded torque and response speed of the joint modules, as well as technologies such as topology optimization and redesigned leg structure.
