Two years after joining the AI startup Anthropic, co-founder of Instagram Mike Krieger is undergoing a role change, moving to jointly lead the company's internal incubator "Labs" team. Krieger previously served as the company's Chief Product Officer, and his new role will focus on driving the development of "experimental products."

The "Labs" team was established in mid-2024 with only two members initially. Now, Anthropic has decided to expand the team's size, planning to double its membership within the next six months. Krieger will join the technical team, reporting to the company's president Daniela Amodei, and will jointly lead the "Labs" team with the current head of product engineering, Ben Mann. Meanwhile, the current "Product Lead," Ami Vora, will take over Krieger's responsibilities and work closely with the Chief Technology Officer Rahul Patil to drive the company's product expansion.

Krieger said in an interview: "We are at a critical moment in artificial intelligence, with model capabilities rapidly improving, and the window of opportunity to shape their applications has arrived. This is why I have decided to return to a developer role and join our 'Labs' team. I want to personally participate in the forefront, building products that can address the world's most challenging problems. I am happy to pass the baton to Ami, who will lead the team to expand Claude."

This executive adjustment comes amid increasing competition between AI startups and tech giants, as Anthropic tries to move forward through internal innovation.
