Siri, which has been quiet for many years, finally gets a chance to make a comeback. According to the latest report by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple is fully pushing forward its artificial intelligence strategy called "Apple Intelligence," and plans to officially launch a new generation of Siri in March 2026. This is not just an upgrade in features, but a complete reconstruction from the underlying architecture to the interaction logic.
One of the key highlights of this upgrade is that Siri will introduce the technology support of Google's Gemini large model for the first time. Notably, Apple is not directly using Gemini's public API, but has reached a special cooperation with Google, through which the latter will develop a customized version of Gemini that can run on Apple's private cloud servers. This means that Siri will gain stronger web understanding and real-time information retrieval capabilities, providing faster and more accurate answers, without changing the original interface and interaction style of Siri - all AI capabilities will run silently in the background, ensuring the consistent experience that Apple has always emphasized.
Hardware Makes Its Debut: New Smart Home Display Combines Wall-Mounted and Speaker Forms
To support the launch of the new Siri, Apple will also release a new smart home display device. This device supports wall mounting or desktop placement, and is equipped with high-quality speakers. It is positioned between HomePod and iPad, aiming to become the core access point for family AI interaction. Users can obtain news, control home appliances, schedule appointments, and even conduct multi-turn question-and-answer sessions with context continuity - a major shortcoming of current Siri.
WWDC 2026 Will Reveal the Full AI Strategy
Although the initial upgrade of Siri is expected to be available in March, Apple's real "AI attack" will be saved for the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2026. At that time, the next generation operating systems iOS 27, macOS 27, and watchOS 27 will fully integrate Apple Intelligence capabilities, covering scenarios such as writing assistance, image generation, and device automation, building a comprehensive personal intelligent ecosystem.
However, Gurman also issued a cautious warning: although the technical cooperation is in place, whether the new Siri can run smoothly and whether users are willing to trust this "old assistant" again remains uncertain. In recent years, Siri's lag in response speed, semantic understanding, and ecological integration has caused many users to switch to third-party voice assistants.
Now, Apple is betting on a private deployment of large models combined with deep software and hardware integration, trying to achieve a smart leap without sacrificing privacy and control. If successful, this could become another classic example of "Apple-style innovation" in the AI era; if it fails, it may miss the last window for voice interaction.
No matter what, 2026 will be a decisive moment for Siri. And this AI revival campaign led by Apple and backed by Google behind the scenes has already quietly begun.
