Pinterest announced on Monday a major AI-driven upgrade to its core Boards feature, aiming to make it more personalized and further advance the company's positioning as an "AI shopping assistant." New features include AI-created **"Styled for You" (Customized for You) collages and "Boards Made for You" (Customized Boards).

AI-Powered "Personal Stylist" and Personalized Exploration

"Styled for You" Collages allow users to combine different clothing and accessories based on their saved fashion Pin images, creating new outfits that match their personal style preferences. Users can simply click on an item in the collage to scroll through AI-recommended saved Pins and mix and match them.

In addition, Pinterest is testing **"Customized Boards"**, which are created by combining editorial input and AI recommendations, presenting popular styles, weekly outfit inspirations, and shopable content. These highly personalized boards will be displayed on users' homepages and inboxes.

Goal: From an Organizing Tool to a Shopping and Inspiration Hub

Pinterest stated that these AI features aim to transform Boards from a simple organizing tool into a more personalized way to explore, shop, and find outfit inspiration. This initiative aligns with the goal set by Pinterest's CEO during the second-quarter earnings call—to position Pinterest as an "AI shopping assistant." In addition to these new features, Pinterest has previously integrated AI into recommendations and visual search.

New Tab Enhances User Experience

Aside from the new AI experiments, Pinterest will also launch a new tab to better categorize Pins in user profiles. These updates are expected to be rolled out globally over the next few months:

  • "Make It Yours" (Create Your Own Pin): Recommends fashion and home decor products based on the Pins users have saved.

  • "More Ideas" (More Creativity): Recommends related Pins in categories such as beauty, recipes, and art.

  • "All Saves" (All Saved): Makes it easy for users to find all the Pins they have previously saved.

Platform's Dual Attitude Toward AI Content

Notably, despite actively launching more AI features, Pinterest remains cautious about handling AI-generated content. The company announced in April that it plans to label AI-generated and AI-edited images and introduce user controls that allow users to reduce the number of AI-generated Pins they see in their feed.

Currently, these AI features are being tested in the United States and Canada and are planned for a full rollout in the coming months.
