According to Windows Latest, Microsoft plans to remove the Copilot theme feature from the new version of Outlook globally in mid-to-late October 2026. This adjustment applies to all platforms—new Outlook on macOS and Windows, as well as Outlook.com web version.

The so-called Copilot theme is an AI interface customization feature that Microsoft integrated into the new Outlook: users can open the entry point, input a few descriptions or choose a pre-set direction, and Copilot will generate a visual style, completely changing the software's appearance. It was once promoted as a key update for the new Outlook on Windows 10 and Windows 11. However, media speculate that the number of users actually using this feature is far below Microsoft's expectations, and the click-through and retention rates cannot justify the investment, leading to its removal.

Deleting the summary, focusing back on the chat window

Also leaving with "Wrap up your day" is another feature. This function would proactively prompt Copilot to generate a concise inbox summary and place it in the right sidebar. Now that Microsoft has removed it, it means that the "auto-summarize" feature in Outlook has also been taken back.

In its place is another path: Microsoft plans to update the Copilot experience in Outlook this month, shifting toward a simpler, chat-centric design, and reorganizing navigation, conversation layout, and Work IQ controls. It's clear that Microsoft is moving its bet from "letting AI change the skin" to "letting AI do real tasks in the chat window"—features like interface beautification will ultimately be replaced by more practical assistant capabilities.
