Tencent Yuanbao announced on October 10 that the Yuanbao Desktop Pet has been launched on PC. After upgrading the PC version of Yuanbao to v2.87.10 or higher, users can click on the avatar in the lower left corner and enter "My Desktop Pet" to activate it. This feature is provided in Beta form, and users can long-press to scan the QR code on WeChat to add Yuanbao and chat with it.

The desktop pet integrates assistant capabilities into all-day scenarios of workday: when the computer starts at 9:00 AM, it proactively greets and asks what to do first today; at 11:00 AM, it supports dragging files, images, or even text directly to the desktop pet for quick summary and processing, with the text drag-and-drop function being gradually rolled out; by 5:00 PM, facing an increasing number of web pages, the desktop pet "devours" long web pages, highlights key points, and directly provides summaries.

In addition, companionship and disturbance control are another main design direction. When tasks are completed or user assistance is needed, the desktop pet will actively remind, while staying quiet when the user is busy; when idle, the desktop pet can be dragged to the edge of the screen, where it will stay beside the screen and accompany the user while occasionally dropping cold jokes. The desktop pet supports drag-and-drop movement and has abilities such as edge retention and proactive conversation, reflecting a sense of propriety.

Moving the assistant from a chat window into a constantly available desktop form is a typical approach for current AI assistants to compete for user time. Unlike simple background floating windows, the desktop pet chooses an embodied character interaction form, giving users adjustable parameters such as activation conditions, reminder timing, and edge position, allowing the assistant to occupy a corner of the desktop without interrupting the main task.
