Anthropic is quietly giving Claude a Chinese skin. Multiple users have found that the web and desktop versions of Claude now have options for Simplified and Traditional Chinese in the language menu, and some accounts are automatically displayed on the Chinese interface when opened. This time, it's not adding conversational capabilities - Claude has been able to chat in Chinese for a while - but rather fully localizing the product's interface. Previously, Chinese users had to make do with an English or other language interface, or rely on browser translations to decipher the menu. Now, this barrier is being quietly removed.

This move still carries a clear element of testing. Anthropic hasn't officially announced this update, and the official language settings documentation has yet to include Chinese, meaning the feature was released secretly while the announcement hasn't been made yet. For Chinese users, the most important boundary to clarify is: localizing the interface does not mean the service is now available in the region.

Claude currently still does not support mainland China, while markets such as Singapore and Taiwan were already included in the service range. This time, it's just that users in these regions can finally use their native language to view menus and click buttons. When a global AI product adds Simplified and Traditional Chinese to its interface language, the message it sends is clear - Chinese-speaking users are no longer being accommodated through translation, but are now being treated natively.
