Microsoft officially launched its new AI computer equipped with the NVIDIA RTX Spark chip at the San Francisco Tech Week event, marking a significant milestone in the field of edge AI since its partnership with NVIDIA was announced in June. The newly released Surface Laptop Ultra includes two base models, with starting prices of $2,600 and $3,700, and the top configuration priced at $5,900 (the top model is already sold out).
At the same time, Microsoft also launched the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box workstation specifically designed for developers, starting at $6,000, pre-installed with core development tools such as VS Code, GitHub Copilot CLI, WSL, and PowerShell 7.
In terms of hardware, the device integrates CPU, GPU, and unified memory, combined with thermal optimization, aiming to efficiently run AI models locally for free; on the software side, the upgraded Windows 11 introduced the "execution container" feature, significantly lowering the sandboxing threshold for AI agents, and this feature will be available to all Windows 11 users. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella pointed out that relying solely on models is no longer sufficient to solve complex problems, and building a collaborative layer that integrates multiple models, context, and memory is the future direction of the Windows platform.
