Developer Tibor Blaho spotted the word "PROMAX" while reverse-engineering the source code of ChatGPT's web version. He inferred that OpenAI is secretly preparing a higher-tier ChatGPT subscription than the current Pro, with a monthly fee possibly ranging from $500 to $600 (approximately 3,359 to 4,030 RMB). Once launched, it would become one of the most expensive AI subscriptions on the market.

Currently, OpenAI has not officially announced this plan, nor confirmed that the code definitely corresponds to a future product. Therefore, the name, features, and final pricing are still uncertain, leaving plenty of room for change.

After Pausing the $200 Tier, the Ceiling Is Raised Again

Looking at the current situation, OpenAI has made several changes to ChatGPT's pricing structure in recent years. From the individual-oriented Plus, to the $200-per-month Pro, and then to enterprise and team plans, the payment matrix has already been established. Just recently, the $200 ChatGPT Pro was temporarily closed to new users, with the official explanation being to reduce system load and make the service smoother for more users.

Now, the subtle hints of PROMAX have emerged, indicating another tier above the $200 plan. According to Blaho's speculation, this top-tier plan could directly raise the monthly fee to $500–$600, far exceeding any existing personal subscription. If this guess proves true, OpenAI would be opening another door at the top of its existing system, separating heavy users who are willing to pay for the strongest computing power and fastest response time, while simultaneously increasing the upper limit of revenue per customer.

However, before the official announcement, all information remains just signals from the source code. It is still unclear whether the product will be called Pro Max, what exclusive features it will offer, or if the price will actually reach that high level. For ordinary users, the more realistic reference remains the currently available Plus and the temporarily closed Pro— even if the top-tier plan arrives, it is likely to remain a price range only a few people or teams would access, without affecting the existing payment choices of the general public.
