Google is accelerating the evolution of its AI services from mere "product discovery" to "transaction conversion." According to the latest news, Google is currently conducting a new test in the Indian market, allowing users to directly purchase Flipkart products within the AI interface through Gemini and AI Mode.
In terms of specific test scope and functional implementation, this test is currently available to a limited number of users, with product categories mainly restricted to a few areas such as certain smartphones, electronic products, and phone accessories. On the product pages that meet the criteria, users can see a purchase button directly, and clicking it will seamlessly enter the checkout process without needing to leave the current AI interaction interface.
To ensure the large-scale rollout of the business in the future, Google has set a clear timeline, planning to expand the test scope further at the end of October this year, aiming to precisely coincide with the critical shopping season in the Indian market. Notably, Google not only launched a general business agreement but also made a significant investment of about $350 million to acquire a stake in Flipkart, laying a solid foundation for its deep integration in the local e-commerce market.
However, this direct purchasing feature is still in its early stages, and not all retailers on the platform have integrated the direct purchase option. The veteran e-commerce giant Amazon is currently not included in this testing system. As the in-app closed-loop ecosystem gradually improves, the monetization potential of large models in the e-commerce field will face new challenges.
