The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, and ten other departments jointly released the "14th Five-Year Plan for the Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry."
The Plan proposes to accelerate the layout of frontier technologies and products, strengthen interdisciplinary integration and the supply of frontier technologies, and support joint efforts by pharmaceutical enterprises, universities, research institutions, and medical institutions. It clearly states that new technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, supercomputing, and computational medicine should be accelerated to empower drug development. It also explores new models of pharmaceutical and medical device production, such as ultra-limit manufacturing, space-based pharmaceuticals, and biomanufacturing, and deepens the application of frontier technologies such as gene editing, molecular precision delivery, cell programming and regulation, advanced omics, and next-generation brain-computer interfaces.
The Plan also proposes to break through key technologies such as the synthesis of artificial life systems, organoids and organ chips, universal cell therapy, complex regenerative organs, diagnostic and therapeutic integrated radiopharmaceuticals, and xenotransplantation organs, and foster several new growth points.
