On August 24, ByteDance's PICO-XR announced that the originally scheduled release of the PICO Space Pro on September 2 at 14:30 has been postponed to the fourth quarter of 2026. The official stated that the hardware and software of the product have reached a high level of completion, but new product opportunities were discovered during the final stage of experience validation. Therefore, they have decided to extend the development time to make a major upgrade to the software experience and directly include the relevant capabilities in the initial version.
PICO-XR said that in the coming months, it will expand the "Pioneer Experience Program," inviting more users to try out the PICO Space Pro in advance, jointly refine the product, and apologize for the delay and the waiting caused.
According to previous information, the PICO Space Pro is positioned as "starting a new spatial experience," which is expected to be the previously exposed internal code name "Project Swan." The device had accidentally appeared in an open SDK, and its appearance features a single woven headband design similar to the Apple Vision Pro. The front light-blocking pad and forehead cushion are clearly similar to those of the Samsung Galaxy XR.
As PICO's new flagship XR product after two years, the postponement of the Space Pro indicates that PICO wants to further improve the initial software experience. As the competition in XR hardware gradually shifts from simple display and computing power comparisons to system interaction and spatial computing experiences, software capabilities are becoming an important factor for product differentiation.
