Recently, ByteDance has once again made organizational adjustments in the field of artificial intelligence, officially establishing a new AI first-level department, mainly focusing on the construction of data and security for large models. The department is led by Wang Yinglei (Adam Wang) and operates in parallel with core departments such as Seed, Flow, and Douyin. This is another important move in ByteDance's AI strategy, following the layout of Seed and Flow at the end of 2023.

It is understood that this newly established department did not emerge out of nowhere. One of its predecessors was the Global Data team, established in 2023. The team originally had around 100 members and primarily provided underlying data support for international business segments such as Dola and TikTok. As the large model business deepened, it gradually took on the responsibility of data procurement and quality management for Seed model training.

After internal integration, the upgraded team's business scope will comprehensively cover foundational models and application businesses, committed to providing high-quality cross-modal data services for all models under ByteDance. Specific work includes standard setting, data procurement, synthesis and cleaning, as well as quality assessment, providing a solid data foundation for the efficient and stable operation of large models.
