According to the latest report by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple's smart glasses project (codename N50) is expected to make its debut at WWDC27 in June 2027 and be officially released in autumn 2027. The product was originally planned for release later this year and launch in early 2027, but has been delayed due to factors such as product refinement and improvement of privacy strategies.

The report states that Apple is making privacy protection a core focus of its smart glasses development. In response to camera privacy controversies caused by competitors like Meta, Apple not only improves related features and policies, but also explores multiple product solutions, including removing the camera and retaining only AI interaction, audio playback, and call capabilities, or keeping the camera but completely disabling photo and video recording functions, using it only for environmental perception and providing visual information to AI. These designs will also be integrated with the iPhone's visual intelligence and future camera-equipped AirPods plans.

In terms of privacy mechanisms, Apple may draw inspiration from Meta's recording indicator light design and test several new software and hardware privacy protection technologies. Mark Gurman said that Apple will continue to adhere to its long-standing "privacy-first" philosophy, and is expected to focus on promoting edge AI processing capabilities, avoiding sensitive features such as facial recognition, and will not introduce a "super-perception" mode similar to Meta, nor will it use user audio and video data to train AI models.

As AI smart glasses become a key focus for tech giants, Apple aims to establish a differentiated competitive advantage through privacy protection and edge AI capabilities, which may further drive the smart glasses market toward a more secure and trustworthy direction.
