Samsung has finally taken action to put a large model into a pair of glasses. On the evening of July 22, Samsung officially unveiled its first AI smart glasses, Galaxy Glasses, marking the company's first foray into AI hardware on the face.

The glasses were not developed in isolation by Samsung alone. It was jointly developed by Samsung, Google, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker. Running the Android XR system, it deeply integrates Google's Gemini multimodal large model natively, with the clear goal of creating an all-day, hands-free visual intelligent assistant.

What is most notable is that it has given up the screen. The entire device has a lightweight appearance close to regular optical glasses, weighing around 50 grams. It does not have a traditional AR display but instead uses high-definition cameras on both sides of the frame to capture real-world images, sending visual information to Gemini for recognition and analysis. The processed results are then read aloud to the user through the audio unit inside the lens. This trade-off directly results in a lower weight and power consumption, making long-term daily wear possible.

Supporting this experience is a dedicated chip. Galaxy Glasses is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1Gen1, featuring four Arm cores with a maximum frequency of 1.9GHz, and a 12-megapixel image sensor. It supports 30 frames per second full HD video recording. The frame includes dual privacy indicator lights, which illuminate simultaneously when recording, clearly informing people around about the recording status.

The multimodal capabilities of Gemini are applied to three practical scenarios: office work, travel, and communication. During meetings, it can automatically capture whiteboard text and instantly organize and archive it into Samsung Notes. When going out, it provides real-time voice navigation and real-time language translation for multiple countries. Instead of lifting the phone, the AI will automatically summarize and read out messages. During calls, it can even share a first-person view of the live video hands-free. It also has context memory capabilities, retaining multi-turn task information to reduce repeated operations.

For interaction, there are two solutions. Basic operations are completed through the touch-sensitive area on the right temple. Sliding adjusts the volume, tapping answers the call, and pressing long starts recording. If paired with the Galaxy Watch9 series watch, it can further unlock air gesture control, freeing up both hands completely. In terms of battery life, the glasses themselves can be used continuously for 9 hours on a single charge, and the accompanying charging and storage case can provide 7 additional full charges, making it sufficient for a whole day out.
