The continuous expansion of artificial intelligence and data center construction worldwide has triggered a global rush to purchase semiconductor products. According to the latest data released by the South Korean customs, the export value in the first 20 days of July this year increased by 62.9% compared to the same period last year, after adjusting for differences in working days, directly setting a new historical high for exports in July.
Looking at the unadjusted base data, the total exports of South Korea in the first 20 days of July also saw a significant increase of 52.3%, while the import value grew by 20%. Driven by strong exports, South Korea achieved a trade surplus of 12.2 billion US dollars during this period, demonstrating its solid strength in foreign trade.
Chip shipments double, technology products lead exports
In this surge of exports, the semiconductor industry is undoubtedly the core growth engine, showing remarkable performance. Statistics show that the export value of chips in South Korea in the first 20 days of July surged by 180.6% compared to the same period last year, fully reflecting the explosive demand for computing chips in the global AI industry.
At the same time, the shipment of computers and related products also experienced an astonishing increase of nearly 232%, while fuel exports rose by 33.4%. In contrast, car exports declined by 10.6%, showing a new trend in exports where technology hardware leads and traditional industries are differentiated.
