To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Google Images, Google is completely reworking the platform. The new interface has transformed its previous single search tool function into a dynamic streaming gallery similar to Pinterest, focusing on visual discovery and inspiration.
After logging into their Google account, users will see a "For You" real-time updated gallery tailored to their interests and browsing history. At the same time, users can save their favorite images to the custom "Collections" tab located above the gallery (such as vacation outfits, travel inspiration, or reading corner designs) for easy access later.

The core purpose of this update is to increase user dwell time and build an ecological barrier. Google aims to boost its platform's advertising revenue and prevent users with image generation needs from moving to third-party services like ChatGPT. This feature will be launched in the coming weeks first on the desktop English version in the United States.
AI Overviews directly integrated with image generation
In addition to the interface overhaul, Google has also integrated image generation capabilities directly into the AI Overviews (AI summaries) of the search. This feature is based on Google's latest Nano Banana model, aiming to help users visualize specific ideas when they cannot find existing images online (for example, previewing how a room would look painted red, or designing a beach-themed dorm room), by directly converting creative concepts into customized visual images within the search results through text prompts.
This AI-generated feature will be gradually rolled out in the coming weeks to all regions and English users currently supporting image creation under AI mode.
