The Portuguese government officially launched the national artificial intelligence (AI) large language model "Amália" on July 1st, aiming to deepen the digital transformation of public services and accelerate the enhancement of the country's and Europe's "technological sovereignty" in the field of artificial intelligence by building a local technological foundation centered around the Portuguese language.

As a strategic achievement developed over 18 months, "Amália" will comprehensively empower core areas such as education, defense, culture, healthcare, and government services in the future. To ensure the continuous iteration of the model and the establishment of an autonomous AI infrastructure, the Portuguese government announced an additional investment of 1.5 million euros on the day of the launch, bringing the total investment in the project to 7 million euros.
