Vishal Sikka, former CEO of the Indian IT company Infosys, is trying to challenge the traditional IT services market with artificial intelligence (AI) technology at his new company Hang Ten Systems. Sikka said that the goal of Hang Ten Systems is to help companies continuously build, modify, and operate software through AI-driven software development and automation.
Hang Ten recently announced that it has completed a $32 million seed round led by the venture capital firm Mayfield, with Aramco Ventures also participating in the investment. The company's board members include Jerry Yang, one of the founders of Yahoo. Hang Ten entered a highly competitive market, where many traditional IT service companies, such as Infosys, are collaborating with AI companies like Anthropic and OpenAI to adapt to changes brought by AI.
Sikka believes that companies show great interest in AI services, especially his extensive experience at SAP and his background as a member of the Oracle board, which gives him high prestige in the industry. Navin Chaddha, a managing partner at Mayfield, stated that Hang Ten has already gained customers within a month, showing the market's demand.
Currently, Hang Ten has partnered with companies such as Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy and Fresenius, focusing on delivering AI-native projects. Based in San Francisco, Hang Ten said it is hiring members for engineering, sales, and leadership teams globally to meet the growing enterprise demand.
Many members of the founding team have worked with Sikka for years at SAP, Infosys, and his previous startup VianAI. Notably, VianAI focused on developing enterprise AI applications and analytics tools, while Hang Ten focuses on providing AI-based services for enterprises, aiming to improve service efficiency by utilizing reusable AI skills and expertise.
Analysts believe that the IT services industry may be one of the first affected by AI. Nandan Nilekani, chairman of Infosys, said that AI could expand the industry's market. However, investors remain cautious about the future of traditional IT service companies, with Infosys' stock falling more than 35% this year.
