Artificial intelligence email service provider Superhuman announced the acquisition of GPTZero, an AI detection startup that was founded three years ago. This acquisition aims to strengthen the AI detection tools built into the Superhuman platform, helping users detect and defend against AI-generated low-quality code, and assisting users in adjusting text to make it more human-like.
GPTZero originally developed from Edward Tian's graduation project at Princeton University, and was co-founded by him and Chief Technology Officer Alex Cui. Although the specific terms of the transaction were not disclosed, it is reported that GPTZero has accumulated over 19 million registered users, with an annual recurring revenue (ARR) of $30 million, and had already achieved profitability in 2024. Throughout its development, the startup has raised a total of $13.5 million in funding, including a $3.5 million seed round led by Uncork Capital, and a $10 million Series A round led by Footwork in June 2024, with participation from renowned institutions such as Reach Capital, Alt Capital, and Neo.
