One of Japan's largest financial groups, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), has announced that it has fully deployed ChatGPT Enterprise to approximately 35,000 employees at its Mitsubishi UFJ Bank. This move marks the group's official deep transformation into an "AI-native" enterprise, aiming to reshape financial services through generative AI and create a new retail customer experience.
Since partnering with OpenAI in October 2024, MUFG has been committed to using AI to expand human thinking and creativity. By 2026, the bank officially launched a phased rollout of ChatGPT Enterprise, making AI an indispensable smart partner for every employee in their daily work.
Building a Culture of AI Adoption Across All Levels
To ensure employees can confidently use this new tool, MUFG has partnered with OpenAI to offer a comprehensive training program, including mandatory e-learning courses for all staff, executive study programs, and customized GPT workshops. With OpenAI's technical support, employees created more than 1,800 customized "AI Banker" tools within just four months.
These AI assistants tailored for specific workflows have shown significant results. In specific research tasks such as tracking AI industry trends and preparing briefings for executives, employees reduced their workload by 20% to 30%, significantly improving the bank's overall operational efficiency.
Reimagining Digital Finance and Customer Experience
In addition to internal business changes, MUFG's collaboration with OpenAI extends to the retail finance sector for customers. The group plans to introduce AI-driven "AI Concierge" services and a multi-asset advisory platform on its integrated financial services brand emutt's digital bank, enabling 24/7 personalized recommendations for customers regardless of time or location.
