At the 2026 Google I/O Developer Conference, Google introduced a new AI image generation and design tool called Google Pics to Workspace users. This application is primarily designed to help users create visual content such as event invitations and posters, marking another important innovation in Google's image processing field.

Google Pics is currently available as a web application, with a product design similar to the well-known tool Canva. Its core function is to integrate "generating images" and "editing designs." Users simply need to input text or give voice commands, and the system will automatically generate the design result. For example, when creating a birthday party invitation, users can get four different candidate versions and choose the most suitable one.

Compared to traditional image generation tools, Google Pics particularly emphasizes the operability of local editing. Users can hover their mouse over an element in the image, click on the part they want to modify, and then adjust the content using text or voice prompts. More conveniently, the text in the image can be edited directly without regenerating the entire image, which undoubtedly improves the flexibility and efficiency of the design process.

In terms of outputting the final product, after completing the modifications, users can save the image in JPG or PNG format and support direct printing or sharing. Google plans to launch a mobile application in the future, allowing users to use this tool more conveniently on different devices. Additionally, Google Pics is expected to be natively integrated into more Workspace applications, reducing the cumbersome steps of switching between different applications.

Currently, this product has been made available to a small group of trusted testers during the I/O event, and AI Pro subscribers are expected to experience this new tool later this summer.
